Want work less, earn more and have more fun in your business?
As Consultants, Experts and Thought Leaders we struck out on our own because, for whatever reason, the daily grind of being an employee no longer worked for us.
However, we often find ourselves working way harder than we ever did in our previous jobs for far less pay. This is unacceptable. I’m here to start a revolution, and there are just 6 key ingredients to master so you can work less and earn more in your business.
There are 6 key ingredients that you need to master.
Work Less & Earn More = Leveraged & Loving It
Once you’ve mastered these things, you’ll be at a stage that I call Leveraged and Loving It – that’s where you can earn more and work less by leveraging your business to its full potential.
This is my 18th year in business and I’ve had a roller coaster ride along the way.
Let’s be honest: it’s not all happy daisies and love hearts. There are ups and downs along the journey. But through that process, I’ve uncovered some key things that if you master, you’ll be able to work less and earn more.
Let’s dive in.
1. Focus & Clarity
You need to focus on your Zone of Genius and stick to it.
Don’t get caught up in shiny object syndrome, chasing shiny objects down rabbit holes.
Stay focused and be clear.
If you don’t have focus and clarity, a couple of things will happen:
- It will be difficult for people to refer to you if you don’t have a clear niche
- If you haven’t nailed your ideal client, you could end up speaking to no one
- If you don’t stay in your Zone of Genius, you could take on projects and clients that are not a great fit, and everyone loses. You don’t do your best work, they don’t get the best outcomes.
2. Signature System
As a Consultant, Expert or Thought Leader, you know so much. Whatever you bring from your career, your education and your experience form a deep ocean of knowledge.
However, navigating that deep ocean of knowledge for each and every client gets exhausting (for you and the client) and is difficult to explain to new clients.
That’s where creating your own Signature System using Visual Models can really streamline all elements of your business: from client acquisition right through to product creation and delivery.
Take what’s in your head and turn it into something tangible and visible, so that it can do the heavy lifting for you in your business.

3. Products & Packaging
The third thing you want to nail is Products and Packaging. This means
you need to have products and offerings that:
- Your clients want and need
- Align with the way that you love to work.
If you create a product that your clients don’t want and need, they won’t buy it.
If you create a product that your clients do want and need, but it’s not how you like to work, then it’s doomed to failure in the long run. For example, if it’s all live workshops and you HATE workshops, you’ll end up resenting running them and it won’t last long.
I’ve been down the path of creating a product clients asked for, but not the way I like to work… and it did not end well.
4. Team & Collaborations
I could not do what I do without my team.
I could not have done 50k plus national tours without my team. It’s just impossible to do everything by yourself.
You don’t need a huge team, but you do need some help.
Also, I could not get all the new clients without the collaborations that I do; the speaking gigs and the podcast and all the ways that I collaborate. That helps to give me leverage.
It means that I can reach more people with less effort by collaborating and introducing other people to my audience and them introducing me to theirs.
5. Systems & Automations
This is totally not my Zone of Genius, but I know how important it is and I hire other people who are great at this stuff to make sure that my systems and automations are running really smoothly in my business.
Systemising and automating things gives you so much more free time so you can truly work less and earn more. Often it takes an investment to start setting it all up, but once it’s in place, it makes all other elements of running a business so much easier.
With our systems and automations, we’re not spending time doing repetitive menial tasks that we could easily get the technology to do for us.
6. Sales & Marketing
If you do all those other five things, and you are crap at Sales & Marketing, then you’re going to be the world’s best-kept secret. That was pretty much what I was doing for a very long time.
I kind of mastered all the other stuff and was not mastering that sales and marketing piece and that’s crucial.
Not my Zone of Genius. I highly recommend that you talk to someone who’s Zone of Genius it is.
Those are the 6 key ingredients you need to master if you want to work less and earn more in your business as a Consultant, Expert or Thought Leader.
Bonus Tip for Your Success Model
Those 6 things make up my Success Model. I’m going to give you a pro tip here for your Success Model. You don’t need to provide all the ingredients to your clients.
Of those 6 things, I only do the first three; Focus & Clarity, Signature Systems, Products and Packaging. I don’t teach the other three things because that’s not my Zone of Genius.
My Zone of Genius is the Signature Systems and the two bits on either side. I do that as complementary to that Signature System. But the main focus is always, always that one piece, being the Signature System.
Even though I know my clients need all 6, I don’t have to give them all of the pieces and you don’t have to give your clients all the pieces either.
Which of those 6 key ingredients have you already mastered and which of them are you working on?
